International Symposia on Nondestructive Characterization of Materials™

(SNCM™) are unique international gatherings of professionals throughout the world. The role of nondestructive evaluation is changing dramatically. It has expanded beyond its historical mission of detecting macroscopic defects in structures and devices after manufacturing. Today, advanced nondestructive materials characterization methods provide continuous information on the processing conditions and actual key properties of the manufactured materials. Materials characterization and real-time process monitoring for improved product quality and reliability has become a practical reality. Materials characterization is often desired for structures that are already constructed and used in service for an extended period of time

Symposia attendees participated via technical presentations that included focused sessions in many areas of materials properties characterization. The symposium functions to draw together technologies of nondestructive methods with extensive and diversified backgrounds of engineers and scientists. Symposium forum helps attendees to explore new applications of nondestructive characterization and solutions to the problems encountered in materials related to industrial needs and practices. The past symposia have included research and applications for aging infrastructure, nondestructive characterization of microstructures, online measurements for process control, measurements for monitoring deterioration processes and structural health, standards for nondestructive characterization of materials, and precision and accuracy of nondestructive characterization measurements including metals, composite materials, non-metallic materials and hybrid materials. Among many characterization methods, the symposia included all x-ray methods, optical and thermal techniques, stress measurement, electrical measurements, magnetic techniques, acoustic emission, emerging technology and all forms of ultrasonics.

The 14th International symposium anticipates receiving papers which deal with the broad application of nondestructive techniques listed in the call for papers for the materials properties characterization including metals and alloys, polymers, ceramics and all types of the composite materials. The symposium encourages papers addressing other issues of current and future interest. Of considerable interest are state-of-the-art developments and applications in complex nature of materials such as development of synthetically structured materials; the measurement and characterization of semiconductors and amorphous metals, the growth of electronic and optical crystals, thin films and structures, and devices made from them. Furthermore, the applications and possibilities for multi-technique measurements of interdependent parameters and the evaluation of the data through sophisticated computer analyses are also encouraged. A list of topics for the symposium is outlined in the Call for Papers tab.
